Frequently Asked Questions

Where does our hojicha come from?

Our hojicha comes from Kagoshima, in southern Japan, a volcanic region renowned for its mineral-rich soils and its mild and humid climate, ideal for tea cultivation.

This exceptional land produces some of Japan's most refined teas, recognized for their deep aroma, natural sweetness, and superior quality.

What's the difference between matcha and hojicha?

Matcha is an unroasted green tea with a vegetal taste and a higher caffeine content.

Hojicha, on the other hand, is a roasted green tea with a sweet, slightly toasted flavor and low caffeine content.

Two exceptional Japanese teas, but two very different experiences: the energy of matcha, the serenity of hojicha.

Does hojicha contain caffeine?

Hojicha contains very little caffeine because its leaves are roasted at high temperatures, which naturally reduces their content.

It can therefore be enjoyed at any time of day, even in the evening, without disturbing sleep.

Is hojicha good for your health?

Yes, hojicha is known for its natural benefits.

Rich in antioxidants and very low in caffeine, it helps reduce stress, promotes better digestion, and can be enjoyed throughout the day without an stimulating effect.

A gentle drink for both body and mind.

How to store hojicha once opened?

To preserve all the aromatic richness of hojicha, we recommend storing it in its airtight Maison Hojicha jar, carefully sealed after each use.

Thanks to this airtight packaging, the hojicha durably retains its delicate toasted notes, its freshness, and its optimal quality.

Is it possible to prepare hojicha without a chasen whisk?

Yes. The chasen whisk is recommended for achieving a fine and even foam, but it is not essential.

A small electric whisk is very suitable for mixing our hojicha quickly and efficiently.

It allows for a smooth and well-dissolved texture, ideal for daily preparation.

Is hojicha only used as a drink?

No. Beyond just brewing, hojicha lends itself to numerous culinary creations. Its delicately roasted flavor enhances desserts as well as certain savory recipes.

For example, it can be incorporated into creams, ganaches, ice creams, tiramisus, cookies, cakes or chocolates, but also into lattes and syrups. In savory cooking, it can flavor sauces, marinades, tempura batters or seasonings.

What to do with our Maison Hojicha tins once empty?

Designed to last, our metal tins can be reused to store tea, coffee, or spices.

Alternatively, they are fully recyclable and are part of our commitment to responsible and sustainable packaging.
